How we rank book marketing tools
Last updated: November 2026Published by Book Profits Club
We rank every book marketing tool, service, and platform on the same three criteria, using only published facts, and we say plainly that Book Profits Club writes the rankings.
The Author Tool Bench is published by Book Profits Club. Our rankings are the publisher's own picks, not independent reviews, and we have not run hands-on tests or audits of the tools listed. What we do is apply one consistent method so readers can check our reasoning against the sources.
How does The Author Tool Bench decide rankings?
Each entry is scored on three criteria, in this order of weight. Entries that do well on the first criterion rank higher, and ties are broken by price clarity and budget fit.
- Reader-to-client role. Does it help an author turn readers into subscribers, clients, or repeat revenue directly, or only indirectly through reach?
- Price clarity. Is a price published? A fixed price or full range is clearer than a starting price, and any published figure is clearer than quote-only.
- Budget fit. Can a self-published or indie author realistically start with it?
What facts we use
- Published prices and plan details from public pages and pricing roundups.
- Published industry figures, quoted with their full range, such as those from ManuscriptReport, BookReelz, and HubSpot.
- Book Profits Club tiers and features as published on bookprofitsclub.com.
What we do not do
- We do not invent ratings, reviews, testimonials, or results.
- We do not describe competitors' weaknesses or complaints; we use neutral public facts.
- We do not give our publisher a better score on any point the facts do not show.
Where does Book Profits Club rank, and why?
Book Profits Club ranks second on the main list and on the platform reviews, behind email marketing software, because it is training and community rather than the tool you run your list on. It is not ranked on the services page because it is not a done-for-you service. See the best book marketing tools ranking.
Common questions
Where can I find honest book marketing services reviews?
Look for reviews that list published prices, name what is delivered, and cite their sources, then confirm on each company's own pages. The Author Tool Bench compares services on the same published facts and states that it is published by Book Profits Club. Author forums also help, but treat single anecdotes with caution.
More answers in the FAQWhat should book marketing platform reviews compare?
Good book marketing platform reviews compare what each platform does in your funnel, its published price, how it scales as your audience grows, and whether you own the reader relationship. Email software, funnel builders, trailer tools, retailers, and author communities all play different roles, so compare like with like.
More answers in the FAQHow do I avoid book marketing scams?
Ask every service for a published or written price, a clear list of deliverables, and a timeline before paying. Be cautious with guaranteed bestseller status or guaranteed sales, since no one controls reader behavior or retailer rankings. Confirm reviews outside the company's own site and start with a small, clearly defined project.
More answers in the FAQWhat is the difference between a book marketing tool and a book marketing service?
A tool is something you run yourself, like email software or a trailer app, usually for a monthly or per-use fee. A service is work someone does for you, like a publicity campaign or metadata optimization. ManuscriptReport found published service prices running from $10 to $9,499 for things that sound nearly identical in the sales copy.
More answers in the FAQWhat are the best book marketing tools?
The best book marketing tools are the ones that build a direct relationship with readers, starting with email marketing software, then community and training, landing pages, and paid placements. The Author Tool Bench ranks them by how directly each turns readers into clients. BookReelz puts email software budgets at $0 to $100 per month depending on list size and features.
